Belden Wire and Cable Lean Initiatives

A Lean Approach

Throughout the Belden Wire and Cable business, Lean tools are used to identify and eliminate waste in all aspects of the production and administrative processes.

This lean approach drives us to identify waste and find new and more efficient processes for the future.
By strictly applying our continuous lean improvement process, we reduce material and energy consumption to a minimum, meeting the requirements of green production.

The quality level of the products is monitored in a Lean Daily Management approach in order to improve the product quality immediately if necessary. Scrap levels are monitored for every Value Stream which is part of Lean Daily Management and this stimulates new initiatives to reduce waste further.

Key examples:

Packaging

FertigungWCS
  • We only use heat treated bark free wood
  • Boxes are filled with recycled cardboard instead of plastic
  • The introduction of new wrappers made from film that is stretchable up to 300% - instead of the previous 100% - for greater materials savings
  • Multiple orders for the same customer are packed together, saving material

Transportation

  • All trucks used by our carriers meet Euro standard 5
  • Our carriers regularly supply us with emission reports

Suppliers

Whilst Belden fully controls its own production processes – we also take into account all green and sustainable initiatives throughout the value-chain – encouraging suppliers and business partners to look for greener solutions.
Suppliers of raw materials and end products are encouraged to obtain ISO14001 certification.
