Case Study: Belden® Speeds Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation’s Upgrade to HD

Belden’s reliability, plug-and-play installation and fast delivery provided NRK with the best overall value and lowest cost of deployment.

When NRK, Norway’s largest TV network, set out to offer high-definition (HD) content and upgrade its camera systems at its 12 regional studios, they turned to Belden to help meet strict schedule and budget constraints, while ensuring reliability and performance.

NRK (Norsk rikskringkasting AS), expressed in English as the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation, is a government-owned, noncommercial, independent public broadcaster that offers a variety of content via three national TV channels, 13 national radio channels and the website, Norway’s second biggest website. Over the past decade, NRK has strived to increase attractive content for young people in the 12-to-29 age group, support exploding mobile platforms and respond to the demand for HD content.

Beginning in 2009 and officially launched with their first HD broadcast from the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, NRK now offers an HD version of its popular NRK1 channel that delivers a variety of news, sports, drama, documentaries and other entertainment. NRK has been steadily increasing HD content ever since, and part of this initiative has involved upgrading camera systems from standard definition (SD) to HD at NRK’s 12 regional studios, including three large production centres in Tromsø, Trondheim and Bergen.
